6 Tips For Staying Motivated When It’s Cold Outside

But don’t worry, accept the season change and just turn your mindset to positive. Wanna get motivated for exercising even if the weather outside is a disaster? Tim Weeks, Olympic trainer, coach, and adviser, is here to give you some useful tips.

LAYER UP!
If you love working out in the open air, take some time for a proper gear-up. Firstly, a Base layer, which wicks moisture from the skin. Secondly, a Mid layer, which keeps your body temperature and doesn’t let the warmth out. Thirdly, an Outer shell, which protects you from wind or rain.

CHOOSE WHAT YOU LIKE.
Having any troubles with getting motivated? Join a class you like. Group exercise will do. Even if you’re not an easy-going buddy, you’ll be involved in the activity for the social and “no thought required” reasons.

WORKOUT WITH A BUD IN WINTER
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
Keep in mind that your feel counts when exercising. It’s all about how it makes you “feel”, not just about the number of calories burnt. You don’t need this top-notch workout if the weather sucks.

LIKE RUNNING? RUN!
If you a fan of running, you’ll probably like running on a treadmill indoors. Winter outdoor running can be especially dangerous when everything is covered with snow or ice. If you are hesitating, try training indoors. The risk of getting injured is still high. You don’t want that.

TREADMILL BUD
FIND A GYM BUDDY.
Working out on your own is mentally difficult. So, find a ‘training partner’. The point is to remove the possibility of ‘quitting’. While one of you may be up, the other may be down. It’s okay because you kind of drive one another.

DON’T FEEL GUILTY.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t cope with your lack of motivation in winter. It happens. Pull yourself together, otherwise, you’ll feel guilty. And it will be difficult to get rid of that feeling.
